West Mersea Dig 2007

The Higher Education Field Academy (HEFA) brings together young people and groups, such as local history societies, to carry out archaeological and documentary investigations into the historical development of villages and hamlets across the country, as part of a widening participation programme for higher education.

The HEFA scheme is run by Carenza Lewis of the University of Cambridge Department of Archaeology, well-known to many from Channel 4's Time Team.

24-25 April 2007 HEFA explored several sites in West Mersea in a project funded by Aimhigher to draw more young people into Higher Education. Pupils on the dig came from several schools in Essex and had a successful two days exploring 10 sites in West Mersea.

Carenza Lewis will be visiting Mersea to give an illustrated talk on last year's dig and on the plans for the future. The talk will be at Mersea Museum on 6th March Thursday at 7.30 pm. The talk is Sold Out!
