The Mersea Barrow.
An illustrated talk and discussion.
It is 100 years since the Barrow was excavated in 1912. With its anniversary comes some concern for ensuring its safe future - and also a desire to look again at its contents and history. Come along, hear some of the history, and give your views on the future.

Museum acquisitions officer Joanne Godfrey will be surveying the costumes held in the museum stores and working out ways to conserve them. We have recently been awarded a grant to help with materials and would welcome volunteers to help with this.

Mersea Museum re-opened for the 2010 Summer Season. The theme of the exhibition is "Odd Objects". As well as featuring the ENDEAVOUR tow-rope and photographs, we will have objects relating to farming, Mersea businesses, medical matters, World War 2, the church - and a few other odd things. Mersea Museum is taking part in A History of the World in Objects. Our object is a portion of the tow rope which severed in 1937, leaving the yacht ENDEAVOUR adrift in the Atlantic.
