Heritage Open Days - Mersea Barrow.
Special weekend opening of Mersea Barrow for Heritage Open Days.
As you come on to Mersea Island, take the left turn to East Mersea. The Barrow is on the left after about half a mile and 100 yards beyond Dawes Lane. There is parking on the left just beyond the Barrow at Barrow Barn. For SatNav, use postcode CO5 8SL.
The entrance passageway is narrow and not suitable for disabled access. A torch would be useful !

Tours start and finish at the Museum. Saturday afternoons at 2.30pm.
£1.50 per person. Tickets available from the Museum on the day.
There will not be a walk on 30 August 2013 - Regatta Day, and on 13th September - Heritage Open Day at Mersea Barrow.

Mersea Harbour is under threat from the erosion by storm wave action of Cobmarsh, Packing Marsh and Old Hall. This process could be arrested by protecting these exposed sites from erosion by a recharge programme...

Friday 16th November 2012 The Pioneer.
An illustrated talk by Brian Kennell.
The smack PIONEER was built 1886 at Rowhedge. By 1942 she was derelict and sunk at West Mersea. She was raised in 1998, restored, and relaunched in 2003. The PIONEER is once more to be seen sailing the local rivers.

An illustrated talk and discussion.
It is 100 years since the Barrow was excavated in 1912. With its anniversary comes some concern for ensuring its safe future - and also a desire to look again at its contents and history. Come along, hear some of the history, and give your views on the future.

A photographic exhibition showing some of the work of David Body (a former Mersea resident who now lives on a barge in Colchester) over 40 years as a professional photographer. As well as local scenes, the exhibition includes some of the subjects covered by David, from cars and celebrities to adverts, fashion and still life.

24th July 2010 Official Opening of the Heritage Resource Centre by Andrew Phillips
The new Resource Centre was be opened by well known Colchester historian Andrew Phillips.

18th January 2010 BBC A History of the World
Mersea Museum is taking part in A History of the World in Objects. Our object is a portion of the tow rope which severed in 1937, leaving the yacht ENDEAVOUR adrift in the Atlantic.
