Iain says: "My grandfather was master of the SS DARCOILA. He was taken ill whilst on board at Mersea 1932/33 ? and was collected by ambulance and transferred to his home town of Cardiff (Roath) where unfortunately he died.

Chum Hewes made quite a good living in the depression, running the DEERHOUND and an ex-ships lifeboat as a supply and personnel ferry to the laid up ships,so this would have been in the Blackwater. [Bob Pullen].
DARCOILA was laid up in the River Blackwater 7 February 1932 to 4 December 1932 [Oyster Company ledger].
Date: cAugust 1932
