I cannot remember the dates but back in the 60's I worked for a shipping company in Hull (East Yorkshire) who where the Agents for Everards and the WILL EVERARD used to one of the ships that we looked after when in Hull. She would go to CWS Mill & Ranks Mill, both in the Old Harbour and sail to/from Kidby, Kings Lynn and Colchester etc. with/for grain/flour. Her skipper was FRED MACKIE, and his 'nick-name' was Bimbo (I don't know why). I remember telling Fred that I would like to sail on her one day and he made sure that I did a trip with her to Kings Lynn and it is something that has stayed with me all my life. I have many treasured photos of the voyage. Anyone any idea what happend to Fred?
17 March 2012 email from Simon Mackie: Fred Mackie was my grandfather. He passed away in 2006, aged 92, but his widow Doris is still alive. Simon says: "Fred was a big character, and many a time I cried with laughter at the way he told his many yarns. So nice to read that Ashley still remembers him."
