TitleSleyes Manorial Admission of John White
AbstractThis Manorial document, dated 12th October 1774, records the surrender of the property known as The Pantile Shop and Pound, previously Sleyes, by Edward Ransom at a Court the year before. The new tenant, John White, did not appear at the previous Courts to be 'admitted' as was customary but appears at this Court and is duly granted the tenancy.

Peldon At the General Court Baron of the Reverend William Samuel Powell Doctor in Divinity and Arch Deacon of Colchester
Lord of the said Manor there holden for the said Manor on Friday the twelfth day of October in the year of our Lord One
thousand seven hundred and seventy four and in the fourteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the
third by the grace of God of great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith &c [etcetera] Before John Round
Esquire Deputy Steward for this Purpose to Charles Gray Esquire Chief Steward there it is thus inrolled./.
Whereas at the last General Court Baron here holden for the said Manor the tenth day of August last past it was
presented by the then homage that since the then last Court, to wit, the twenty first day of October then last past
Edward Ransom a Copyhold Tenant of this Manor came before Charles Gray Esquire Steward of the said Manor and did
Surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the hands and acceptance of the said Steward
according to the Custom of the same Manor All that Pantile Shop and Pound with the Appurtenances opposite to the
Brick'd Messuage or Tenement then in the Occupation of John Matthewman and holden of the said Manor by Copy of
Court Roll And the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders therof And all the Estate Right Title
Interest Property Claim and Demand whatsoever both at law and in Equity of him the said Edward Ransom of in and
to the said Premises and every part thereof To the only Use and Behoof of John White of Peldon in the County of Essex
Farmer and of his heirs and Assigns absolutely and for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor And because no
Person then came to be Admitted to the said Premises although Proclamation was thrice made thereof according to the
Custom of the said Manor therefore it was Commanded the Bailiff to seize &c [etcetera] (as by the Rolls of the said Court
doth appeare) Now at this Court came the said John White in his own proper person and humbly desiring to be Admitted
to the said Premises pursuant to the said Surrender the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the hands of the said
Deputy Steward did grant him seizin thereof To have and to hold the said Pantile Shop Pound and all and singular
the said Premises with the Appurtenances unto the said John White his Heirs and Assigns of the Lord by the rod at
the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Rents and Services therefore before due and
of Right accustomed and he gave the Lord a Fine and so he was Admitted Tenant ./.

And afterwards Surrendered to the Use of his Will
