World War 1 Memorial Soldiers and Sailors at Mersea Museum. 51 soldiers and sailors were displayed along the Strood for a year from 11th November 2018, organised by Duncan Pittock. They were then auctioned/raffled in aid of the founding charities, who had financed the project.
The left hand sailor is in memory of Ralph_Cutts-Avis who was killed when HMS CRESSY was sunk 22nd September 1914, and was obtained for the Museum by a sealed bid which was funded by public and members donations, as was the picture.

The right hand soldier is in memory of Bertie Woods, who was killed in action in France 11th August 1917. This soldier was privately donated and is a tribute to Brian Jay who organised the Museum's efforts to secure one of the soldiers.
