NALON sinking. She was bombed and sunk 6 November 1940 to the West of Ireland, on a voyage Beira to Glasgow. A near miss had blown in the plates at No.3 Hold and the ship filled and sank. All 72 crew were rescued.
In the photograph, she is down by the head, two lifeboats are lowered and alongside.

The NALON was built 1915 for Lamport and Holt as MURILLO and transferred to H & W Nelson in 1929. The vessel was laid up in the River Blackwater in 1930 and 1932. The Nelson Line fleet went to Royal Mail Lines in 1932 and MURILLO became NALON.
