Ted Milgate was John's father. John says that they plucked the goose by the gate of a nearby house. Unfortunately, some geese has been going missing on the island. When they saw the feathers by the gate, they assumed the owner of the house was responsible for taking the geese.

In Farming Adventure, Wentworth Day says Bill Wyatt is the commodore of the club. On page 48, he writes of Bill Wyatt:
"Beer's my hobby time I'm indoors. Gimme a gun when I'm in Gawd's fresh air, an me owd pint pot time I set here."
"I've drunk a masterful greet owd lot of beer in me time. Now I'm seventy seven an' can still make a hole in the barrel."
