A party outside the Victory Inn, perhaps in Mersea to enjoy the Oyster Teas advertised by the Victory. The writing on the front of the Inn says Colchester Brewing Co., Ales and Stout, Wines and Spirits. Proprietor W. Trim. 1894 Kelly's lists George Brand as the licensee, so Bill Trim must have taken over after that. The latest date it would be is around 1907 when the license transferred to the 'new' Victory further up Coast Road.

The photograph comes from a great grandchild of Charlotte and Charles George Archdale Wilson. Charles was a draughtsman in the Royal Engineers. In 1895 they were in Singapore; their son Victor was born in May 1898 in Colchester and in 1901 they were living in Mersea Road, Colchester.

MMC_P755_013 was taken at the same time and is by Cleghorn.
