Another version of the card says Pictured about 1910, the wooden pier stretched 500 yards into the River Blackwater. It was opened in 1907 and the first steamer sailing to Clacton was on 25 September. A life-belt warns of deep water under the pier when the tide was in. When it was out the mud-flat were exposed. ...

Various craft can be seen on the water, some deoorated with flags, suggesting possible preparation for a regatta.
