 John Chatters at Ivy Cottage, Churchfield, about 1914. The seafaring jumper from CHANCE belonged to his son Fred who was a member of the crew of this yacht which passed through Kiel Canal on way home a few days before outbreak of war in 1914. CHANCE was then requisitioned by the War Office and was sunk almost immediately.
