It must have been cold posing for this photograph outside the bride's home because the marriage took place at the church of St. Peter and St. Paul on Christmas Day 1924. The bride and groom were Grace Evelyn Stoker and Sidney Hewes who both lived on Coast Road at Riverside and Fleetview respectively. Grace's father William John Stoker stands on the right and Samuel Burton Hewes, one of the witnesses, is on the left. The bridesmaid on the right is Florrie Hewes. Maisie Hewes, now Jenkins, the little bridesmaid on the left, is still alive and remembers the day.

Maisie was recorded as Marie Constance Hewes when she married William Jenkins at West Mersea Parish Church 30 March 1946. He had come here in the Army during WW2 and was a coal man with the Co-op.

Florrie was daughter of Charlie Hewes. She married James Maley, an Officer in the Merchant Navy, in 1933. They had 2 daughters and a son.
