 Drowning Tragedy at Mersea. Mr 'Sooty' Mussett loses his life. 

Mr William Mussett senior, known as 'Sooty', had gone into the river on a shooting expeditin with Mr Campbell, son of Dr & Mrs Campbell of Layer Marney Towers.

It is surmised the sail gibed and the boat capsized.

Fortunately the yacht DUETT whose owner Mr Courtauld of London was on board with his skipper, a Burnham man ...

Fortunately the yacht DUETT whose owner Mr Courtauld of London was on board with his skipper, a Burnham man named Mr Bradford ... got both men on board.
'Sooty', who was 67, was past saving, but Mr Campbell revived.
