Scholars' Presentation. On Saturday afternoon, April 15, in the Schoolroom at East Mersea, Mrs A. Martin was presented by scholars, past and present, of East Mersea Church School, with a handsome mantel clock, suitably inscribed, in grateful recognition of her 21 years as headmistress. Mr A.M. Lord and the Rev. A.G. King spoke of the excellent work Mrs Martin had done in the school, and of her wonderful influence over the children of the village for so many years, which was much appreciated both by scholars and parents. It was pointed out that the closing of the school was a very great loss to the village and that, together with the consequent of Mrs Martin, made the loss even greater. The presentation was made by senior scholar, Betty Ponder. Mrs Martin expressed her deepest thanks for their most acceptable gift, which she said would always be a reminder of her 21 years of very happy work at East Mersea.

3 April 1939 nine children from East Mersea School were transferred to West Mersea, and Mrs Martin started work at West Mersea School.
