The Spitfire Fund - A local effort to help the Spitfire Fund has been started, and Mersea is going to see what can be done about it. Mrs Tapp, of the "Firs" has begun by organising a dance at the Victory Hotel dance hall on Saturday last, by kind permission of Major and Mrs Freestone. Mrs Keenlyside was at the door and the proceeds, together with donations and the proceeds of a competition for a box of chocolates (won by Mrs F. Eley), amounted to £15, which has been sent direct to the Air Ministry.
Further events to be organised for this fund will come along in due course, and funds and donations received by Mrs Tapp will be sent direct as a Mersea sitfire Fund. Music for the dance was supplied voluntarily by Mrs P. Carrington (at the piano), Miss Bubbles Smith (accordian) and drums by "Gunner George."

Tea Dance - Proof of the popularity of the Saturday tea dances arranged by the Legion for troops was evidenced again last weekend, when the Hall was well filled by them and the dancing "fans" of the Island. Ronnie Regan, with his accordion, and natural gift as a band leader, again made the music swing to the enjoyment of all. Members of the Forces gave songs, Mrs Cartwright entertained with more recitations, and the refreshment committee were kept busy supplying teas etc.
