Under the Plough - for the first time in history, Pete Tye Common lying between Peldon and Abberton has come under the plough.

Death of Miss A.M. Bishop. Following upon a fall at her home, Kosy Cot, High Street, the death has taken place at Colchester of Miss Alice Mary Bishop at the age of 80 years. Miss Bishop, who is a sister of Mr W.H. Bishop, the solicitor, has lived in Mersea for a very long time, and for a number of years was the secretary of the old Mersea Bus Company of which Mr Bishop was Managing Director.

Peldon History Project tell us that it was Billy Theobald who ploughed Pete Tye Common, and Paul Doorne tells us that flax was grown on the common during the War.
