On left, Mr Joe Wilkinson, one time Gardening and Science Teacher at West Mersea County Primary School. The other gentleman is Mr Toombs and wife, former Headmaster of Mersea School and a strict disciplinarian. Mr Toombs was known as 'Captain'.

Mr A.E. Toombs was headmaster West Mersea School 1st March 1923 to 13 September 1936. Mr Wilkinson's full name was William Dale Wilkinson, known as Billy [Nina Morters] though Owen's caption for this photograph has it as "Joe". He commenced teaching at West Mersea School 4 July 1932 and retired 19 December 1951.
