I was always told that your great grandfather John Hewes (who I remember very well) would not sell cigarettes to women. It was against his principles to encourage women to smoke. He sent them up the road to Sid Hewes who kept a sweet and cigarette shop near the Causeway. Many is the time I've had a ½d ice cream at his little shop. [ Lorna Tarran ]
