 Gooseberry Pies

A feature of village life which became connected to the annual Fair during the last weekend of June, were the Gooseberry Pies. They were slow-cooked overnight in Sunderland clay dishes sold to local women by the bargemen. Some entries are proudly displayed here outside Shynn's bakery in North Road.
