Part of the bomb map of Mersea Island showing the string of High Explosive [marked in Blue] bombs dropped from near the Water Tower down Mersea Avenue, with the last one in the middle of St Peters Road. The front of a semi-detached house in Mersea Avenue was sucked out by one of the bombs - "Laburnhams" (later No. 11) belonging to Ernie Woolf and "Alafin" (No. 13) belonging to Percy Mussett. The house has a plaque on the front gable saying "Built 1927 Reconstructed 1946". The bombs were dropped late morning on 21st.
The date of the red incendiary bombs is not clear but many were dropped in this area September 1940.
