"I have happy memories staying at Dukes Farm. Uncle Basil had a ghost chamber bedroom with a chain across the door. There wasn't any ghost but Uncle Basil thought the house was so old it should have one! He had a delicious sense of humour.

My bedroom had a four poster bed with a feather mattress - great when you first got in as the feathers moulded to your shape but if you moved it wasn't quite as good. Also if you put a tennis ball on the floor at one side of the room it would roll towards the window. It was a house full of character.

Uncle Basil's bedroom was directly above the dining room and had a four poster bed that was built into the wall. The heavily carved headboard had a hidden cupboard, ostensibly to keep a gun in for protection, but we there were only sweets in it for my children!!

My mother, Chloe Kipling, often rode horses at Uncle Basil's back in the 1930/40's.

Happy memories
