Chris Faircloth says about "Garden Fields":
My great grandad bought "Garden Fields" cottage. My grandad was born there in 1866, he moved into Colchester and became a postman, my dad grew up in a rented terraced house in Maldon Road and went to school in Colchester, but went to Birch - Hardy's Green most weekends and the whole family used to decamp to Hardy's Green for the summer, my grandad kept the place on and moved back to Hardy's Green permanently in about 1925, my dad joined the army in 1929 so Mona who was the baby of the family was the only one of the seven kids to grow up there and go to school in Birch. My grandad died in 1945.
