M.L. MALDON ANNIE after conversion to a motor vessel.
MALDON ANNIE Official No. 146532, 23 tons gross, length 56ft 4in, Wood, 37BHP, registered London 1922, owner Mrs Isabella S. Lamont, Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex. Where and when built not known. [MNL 1934 - list of British Registered Motor Vessels]
The ANNIE was built as a steamer, probably in the North West around 1890. She worked at Maldon up to World War 1 doing trips from Maldon to Osea and sometimes downriver to Mersea or Bradwell. After WW1 she was fitted with a petrol-paraffin engine and continued to do trips from Maldon. She was lost at Dunkerque in 1940.
There is an article on the ANNIE in the 2009 West Mersea Town Regatta Programme.
