Full rigged ship HARBINGER was an Ipswich caller in 1901.
The HARBINGER was a full-rigger launched at Greenock in 1876 as a passenger ship for Anderson, Anderson and Co. original owners and managers of the Orient Line. They sold her in 1890 to London owners Devitt and Moore who had previously worked as shipping clerks before starting their own world famous shipping line. They used her in their Melbourne trade as one of their fleet of training ships for 'sons of gentlemen' as midshipmen or cadets, a commitment that was carried on by the Pangbourne Nautical College. She was sold to a Finnish owner in 1898 and re-registered at Raumo in the Gulf of Bothnia and it was with this owner that she came to Ipswich in 1901 with barley from 'Frisco. HARBINGER was broken up in 1910.
