 The Old Man of the Sea.

Terracotta bust found while oyster dredging on the Nass by Allan Bird and Peter Vince in 2001. In the early 1930s a number of these busts were mounted on pillars in the grounds of Orleans. The were stolen by a young Mersea fisherman, but when a rumpus followed, he seems to have dumped them in the River. There they rested until dredged up almost 70 years later.
