By the late 1930s, Eastern National had a monopoly of the Mersea to Colchester route. It began operating under that name in 1930, one of several regional bus companies formed after an agreement between the National Omnibus & Transport Co, Ltd and several major railway companies to co-ordinate road and rail services.

Eastern National used the old 'Primrose' garage in High Street, West Mersea, until it was closed in March 1973 and eventually incorporated into the new MICA centre.
