Arthur and Harry Death stowboating aboard the ELLEN of Rowhedge in the 1920s. They are passing girdlines round a sleeve, and have pulled a forward sleeve up on to the main halyard to get it out of the way, having worked the fish aft from it. [The Stowboaters, page 19.]
