"Maldon barge ETHEL MAUD turning away on the top of the tide on her way down the River Blackwater probably to spend the day on a beach somewhere. She will return on the next tide with a load of tired but happy people. The occasion is believed to be an outing of the Constitutional Club in 1913.
ETHEL MAUD was built by John Howard at Maldon in 1889 and was owned on the River Blackwater for the whole of her working life. She is now being completely rebuilt in Kent so hopefully this scene could one day be re-enacted. If so, the number of people on board will have to be greatly reduced."
