Plaque in East Mersea Parish Church
Rev. Mr John Tickell bequeathed to East Mersea, Two Hundred Pounds after Mrs Tickell's death, in the following words, "I give to the Rector and Churchwardens for the time being, of the Parish of East Mersea, in Essex, the sum of Two Hundred Pounds to be paid to them respectively within one year next after my said Wife's decease, upon trust, that the said Rector and Churchwardens respectively lay out their respective Legacy within one Month after payment there of, in the purchase of 3 Pr. Cent Consol'd Bank annuities, and apply the Dividend therefrom arising, in the education of such poor Children of the Parish as shall by the Rector in his own Parish, be from time to time nominated.
Revd. Bramston Stain, Rector of East Mersea.
The Revd. John Bramston Stane comes up in various sources of information, and the name is never spelt Stain. Is the spelling Stain here a mistake on the part of the stonemason ?
