The Robinson family and the Gibb family had come down to London from Northumberland to take up the drapery trade. Lewis Taylor Gibb was born Kensington 4 June 1873 [ LTG_FBL_002 ]. Lewis Gibb married Joshua Robinson's youngest daughter Margaret, and then Lewis took over the management of the Joshua Robinson business, which became a family owned private company.
Lewis Gibb bought a plot of land on Mersea in 1914 but because of the war and restrictions was not able to build a house on it until 1928, when Holmcroft was built. [Douglas Gibb - LTG_AB3_003]
