143 of 147 Slide Show Running BBC Countryfile Winter Diaries on 15 Feb 2017 featured recent finds on the mud off Mersea Island. This screenshot shows prehistoric timbers found off Coopers Beach by oysterman Daniel French. They are thought to be part of a trackway across the marshes. The timbers have been rescued from the mud by archaeologists and members of the Citizan project and are being dated prior to preservation. Citizan works with volunteers to record finds and changes around our coast - for more see www.citizan.org.uk.
