47 of 132 Slide Show Running The windmill in Mill Road, previously called Chapel Road.
From the middle of the 19th century it was owned by various members of the Smith family and became known as Smith's Mill. The old mill was damaged in August 1892 and was rebuilt and back in action by April 1893. West Mersea Mill. The mill ceased trading at the end of the First World War and the top part was removed in the 1920s. The base, known as the Round House, can still be seen next to the Mill House, and was once used as a bakery.
