Six Tollesbury Men in One Warship. At least six men from Tollesbury have served on board the auxiliary vessel HMS MALAHNE.
Leading-Seaman R.W. Leavett and Seaman E. Wash, peace time friends, have been in the ship since she was commissioned early in 1940. The other Tollesburians, Leading-Seaman C.R. Knights, Seaman J. Frost, Seaman I. Clark and Steward R. Frost, are now serving elsewhere.

Leading-Seaman George Clark, who has also been in the ship since she commissioned, and Seaman E.C. Clark, come from Maldon.

The MALAHNE, one of the Navy's smaller ships, was on patrol work in the Channel during Dunkirk. She is now engaged on important work in collaboration with the Fleet Air Arm. Pilots frequently come on board to be taught the intricacies of seamanship and navigation.

The MALAHNE featured in the flim "Coastal Command". She was disguised as a German Raider. Many of the "shots" were taken from her deck.
