TitleLord Greenwood of Rossendale of East Mersea in the County of Essex.
AbstractSome notes by Susanna Taylor née Greenwood.
Arthur Greenwood (my grandfather) lived at the Old Ship Cottage, East Mersea for much of the war - even during the time when he was a member of the War Cabinet. My father, Tony (Arthur William James known as Anthony) loved Mersea so much that when he became a member of the House of Lords he took the title Lord Greenwood of Rossendale (his constituency for many years) of East Mersea in the County of Essex.
Rex Whistler was actually visiting them when he painted the church at East - my mother was an art school friend of his and she was on her honeymoon with my father - having travelled there on a tandem bicycle. (see Image ID RG050130).
