Essex s[essions] [Note 1] To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of
the parish of West Mersey in the Countyof Essex.
1. We the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor of the
2. parish of Chich St Osyth in the Countyof Essex do hereby
3. For ourselves and Successors own and acknowledge
4. James Ellis his Wife and Family to be Inhabitants
5. legally Setled in our Said parish of Chich St. Osyth
6. And we do hereby promise For ourselves and Successors
7. to receive the Said James Ellis his Wife and Family
8. into our Said parish of Chich St. Osyth whensoever
9. they Shall become chargeable [Note 2] ; In Witness whereof
10. we the Churchwardens , and Overseers of the poor
11. of the parish of Chich St Osyth aforesaid
12. hereunto Set our hands and seales the Five and
13. Twentieth day of September Annoq[ue] D[om]ini [and in the year] (1721)

of Essex do allow of the Certificate above written dated
the twentie seventh day of Sept[em]ber Anno Dom [ini] 1721

The individuals named above appeared before Justices of the Peace, who granted the certificate for the family claim Settlement in Chich St Osyth and to receive Poor Relief there
Note 2 Chargeable [to the parish] means that they have become paupers and require Poor Relief from local Overseers of the Poor
