[Marginal Notes]     Reeve Hall. There are 37 tenants that were at some point charged with works and customs; see below
Item: Firstly, that there are 37 customary tenants charged with collecting rent due to the Lord of the Manor and undertaking various established works and customs [Note 2].
Notwithstanding that various tenements leased to the said 37 tenants are exempt from collecting rent and performing the said customary work, by payment of an annual sum of 3 shillings and 8 pence, in addition to their annual rent,is due in respect of continuing ancient customs; that is to say:

MoundsThomas Broman acknowledges that he holds by copy of the court roll one messuage [Note 3] and 5 acres of customary lands with appurtenances called Mounds, at an annual rent of 4 pence per acre.
Annual payment for works and customs previously due 2 shillings and 8 pence. Total annual payment: 5 shillings 4 pence.
WardesItem: Thomas Broman also holds by copy of the court roll one messuage and 8 acres of customary land called Wardes. Annual rent per acre is 4 pence; he also pays for exemption from works and customs, and collecting the Lord's rents (as above), 3 shillings and 8 pence.
Total annual payment: 6 shillings 4 pence
BromansItem: Thomas Broman holds by copy of the court roll one tenement and 14 acres of customary land called Bromans. Annual rent per acre is 4 pence; annual payment for works and customs - 2 shillings and 8 pence; annual rent - 12 pence.
Total annual payment: 8 shillings 4 pence.
WorksItem: Thomas Broman holds by copy of the court roll one tenement and 25 acres of

customary, heritable, land called Ralf Martylls; annual payment per acre is 7 pence. He is appointed Reeve [Note 4] and also undertakes works and customs as follows: He has the obligation of permanent works and customs in scything one acre and a half, sowing [?] 3 rods of oats and weeding for 2 days before noon, and collecting [?], washing and shearing sheep for a day.

Note 1 This is the tenth year of the reign of King Henry VIII; the exact year is not known as the month this document was dated is not specified.
Note 2 the recorded customs detailing conditions of tenure and the services to be rendered by tenants to the Lord of the Manor
Note 3 dwelling house and associated lands
Note 4 manorial or communal officer, often elected from customary tenants, and usually concerned with the management of open fields and commons.
