3.   Doe make this my last will and testament the two and twentith daie of Januarie in the
4.   yeare of our Lord 1583 in the sixe and Twentith yeare of the Raigne of our
5.   Soveraigne Ladie Elizabeth by the grace of God of England Frannce and Ireland
6.   Queene Defendresse of the faith &c[etera] in manner and forme followinge first I bequeathe
7.   my sowle into the handes of Almightie God my Creator redeemer and saviour and my body
8.   to the yearth decentlie to be theire buried. Item I bequeath to Brian Page my sonne the
9.   best ioyned bedsteede standinge in the parlor soller [a private room usually upstairs] with the featherbedd boulster and other the
10.   furniture thereto belonginge. Item I give to him the ioyned table in the hall with the frame two
11.   ioyned formes and a table cloth thereto belonginge. Item I give to him my greatest brasse pott my
12.   brewinge brasse hanginge in the backe howse withe the barr of Iron in the Chimney, in the hall
13.   and the two tramells [ Note 1 ] hanginge theire on. Item I give to Stephon Page my sonne the ioyned
14.   bedsteede standinge in the parlor with the featherbedd boulster and all other the furniture thereto
15.   belonginge. Item I give to him the ioyned table with the frame and six ioyned stooles standinge in
16.   the parlor with a table cloth meete for the same Item I give to him my second brasse pott with a newe
17.   copper unhanged. Item I bequeath to Thomas Page my sonne the ioyned bedsteed standinge
18.   in the nether soller the featherbedd boulster and all other the furniture thereto belonginge. Item
19.   I give him the ioyned table with the Frame and six ioyned stooles standinge in the parlor soller
20.   With a table cloth meete for the same. Item I give him my bigest brasse kettle and six good platters
21.   Item I give to Thomas Page my sonne two hundreth poundes of lawfull English money
22.   to be paied unto him by myne Executor at his age of one and Twentie yeares. But yf it happen
23.   Thomas my sonne to departe this life before his age aforesaid and both his bretheren then
24.   lyvinge then I will and bequeath the two hundreth poundes soe bequeathed to Thomas my sonne
25.   to be equally devided betweene his brothers and to be paied unto them by myne executor at theire
26.   severall ages of \one and/ Twentie yeeres But if it happen the said Thomas my sonne and also one of
27.   his bretheren to depart this lyfe before theire said ages of Twentie one yeeres Then I will that
28.   the brother survivinge to have one hundred poundes of the money bequeathed to Thomas my

29.   sonne as aforesaid and my wife to have the other hundreth poundes. Item I give to Thomas
30.   Page my sonne my messuage or tenement lyinge in Peldon aforesaid called Tyhowse alias
31.   Poyse croft with appurten[au]nces to him and to his heires for eveir. Item I give to Brian Page
32.   my sonne all that my messuage or tenement lyinge in Peldon aforesaid called Samptons
33.   with the growndes and other the appurten[au]nces thereto belonginge (except great faire feilde
34.   and Witcherlond as they are nowe devided) to him and to his heires for ever. Item I give
35.   to the said Brian my sonne all my growndes with the appurten[au]nces in Peldon aforesaid called
36.   Abbottes Wicke and Samptons Wicke and the longe meadowe with all the feilde lyinge
37.   betweene the said meadowe and Copthale out marsh fleete as it is devided with a hedge from
38.   the wall ende to the said meadowe to him and to his heires for ever. Item I give to Stephen
39.   Page my sonne all that my messuage or tenemente lyinge in Peldon aforesaid called newportes
40.   with all the growndes and other the appurten[au]nces belonginge thereunto (except before given
41.   and bequeathed to him and to his heires for ever Item I give to the said Stephen my son[n]e
42.   all those two parcells of land with theire appurten[au]nces called great faire feilde and
43.   Witcherlond in Peldon aforesaid as they are nowe devided to him and to his heires for ever.
44.   Provided alwayes and my meaninge is that if anie thinge in this my last will and testam[en]t
45.   concerninge the conveyinge of my landes bequeath as aforesaid to my two eldest sonnes be
46.   not soe effectuall or forceable in lawe as the intente thereof is and that my \said/ sonnes thereuppon
47.   Disalowinge this my will and seekinge to procure a greater or other parte or portion of the said
48.   landes other then is herein to them bequeathed fall at variaunce or contention in lawe that
49.   ymediately from thenceforth my said sonne so discontented and contendinge with his brother
50.   in this behalf be cleerely voide of all the legacies and bequestes made before unto him in this
51.   my present will. And that his brother whollie enioy the same in as ample manner and
52.   forme as he might have done by vertue of this my will. Item I give and bequeath to the
53.   poore people of Peldon twentie shillinges And to the reparations of the Church: Tenne shillinges
54.   Item I give to mr Taye pastor of the same Church twentie shillinges. Lastly I give and
55.   bequeath to Elizabeth my wife all the use occupienge profitt and commoditie of all my said
56.   howses landes and tenementes before bequeathed To my said sonnes Duringe the minoritie of
57.   my said Children and untill they shall accomplish theire severall ages of one and twentie
58.   yeares with all my moveable goodes and Chattelles whatsoever before not given nor bequethed
59.   to the discharginge of all my debtes Legacies and bequestes to the mainteyninge of all my said
60.   howses and yardes with necessarie reparac[i]ons and the repareinge and upholdinge of all the
61.   marsh walles from tyme to tyme as neede shall require: for the decente and vertuous bringinge
62.   upp of my said Children in learninge as they are thought meete and for the full performannce
63.   of this my last will and testament. But if the said Elizabeth my wife shall marrie againe
64.   Then I will that one moneth before marriage she enter into sufficient bond of the hundrethe
65.   poundes of lawfull English money to Abacucke Page of Stratford in Suff Clothier and Tho:
66.   Ducke of Layerdelaheye in the Countie of Essex yeoman for the full performannce of this my
67.   present will and testament. Or elles for the Default of the said bond in forme aforesaid I will the
68.   said Abacuucke Page and Thomas Ducke to enter and enioye the foresaid landes and tenementes
69.   and all other the premisses and bequeathes to the said Elizabeth my wife before in this my will
70.   bequeathed in as ample manner and to the same endes that the said Elizabeth my wife shoulde or
71.   ought to have done by vertue of this my said will The which Elizabeth my wife I ordaine and
72.   make my sole Executrix . And the said Abacucke Page my supervisor By me Thomas Page
