Abstract | For many years around the beginning of the 20th Century, the Wilson family spent a lot of time in East Mersea. They were from London, but they rented Myth Cottage at East Mersea and perhaps other cottages. Many of the family stayed in Mersea for long periods. The children were adventurous and the girls in particular took advantage of the freedom they were given. East Mersea found a place in their hearts and a number are buried in East Mersea Churchyard.
We are lucky that they wrote about their time on the Island:
Arthur Haes and Diana Mary Wilson
Memoirs of Mrs Isabella Rosa Dawson 1880-1972
An old lady remembers by Alan Dawson
Grace Edenborough - a Victorian orphan
Will of Hannah Clark proved 1843
