TitleK.O.S.B. wartime. Caesar - Winifred Hone memoirs
AbstractThe Kings Own Scottish Borderers were stationed here, they had a goose for their mascot named Caesar. The Regiment had no proof of her gender although at a much later date after the K.O.S.B. had departed for France it was established. Nobody could resist Caesar's charm, she liked titbits from the picnickers and was not too proud to ask for more. She would flap her magnificent wings at the gulls who dared to come too close. She used to strut about down by the hard in order to get the Admiral's attention - he would get a broom and go down to the water and give her a bath. With no sense of self preservation and complete disregard for danger, the way she strutted around with vehicles going in all directions was alarming.

Alas with the departure of the Regiment she was left behind and had to suffer the indignity of being shut up in a cage with nothing else to do but lay eggs, which she did with the same dignity as she had led the regiment in former days.
