Abstract | Mr Justice Younger who afterwards became Lord Blanesburgh, a Justice of Appeal during our tenancy
at the Victory, a batchelor and a very kindly man, one of his interests was in orphan societies to which he made
many grants. He owned a picture of Mersea beach painted in the long distant past (artist unknown); the scene was
of green fields with cattle grazing and looking towards the Bradwell shore. The tide now flows at high water mark
for children to paddle and bathe and enjoy the sand washed up over the years, he said he believed there had been
a cart track at low water from Mersea beach to Bradwell a very long time ago.
Another visitor was Mr Justice Darling afterwards Lord Darling, he had a terrific knowledge of Art, Literature and Music and never missed an opportunity of inflicting on an unsuspecting person not interested in such learned subjects,
it was not unusual for him even when he was presiding over a case in court.
I myself enjoyed every minute of his knowledge of the Arts.
