AbstractElgar Frank Mussett was born 1920, son of Frank Elgar Mussett. He is talking to Dennis Chatters. Part 1.
Elgar went to Colchester Technical School and then started work as an indentured joiner with Clifford White & Company. With war approaching in 1938 Clifford White was making shuttering for the concrete gun emplacements, but Elgar decided this was not enough, and went to a governement training school at Watford to learn to make flying boats. They were making Walrus flying boats - Saunders Roe. He moved on to working on Radar.

Not clear who Elgar was working for ...

Went out to Singapore on EMPRESS OF CANADA - group of about 26. The Radar was on another ship that was lost, so once in Singapore, just did odd jobs. When Japanese overran Singapore, a group of them escaped to Sumatra in a Chinese sailing boat. Took 6 weeks to cross the island to Padang ... [End of this track Continued on LTM 55 Side 2.
