Translation to Modern English by Jill Waters March 2020

In the name of God, Amen, on 31st March, 1628, I, Thomas Fereer of East Mersea in the diocese of London, being sick in body but in perfect memory, thanks be to God, do make this my last will & testament as follows:

First, I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my creator and to Jesus Christ my only Saviour; my body to the earth and the worldly goods which God in his mercy has lent me I give as follows:

Item, I give to Tabitha, my loving wife, all my lands and tenements with their appurtenances belonging to the manor of East Mersea for 21 years until the child she is expecting reaches the age of 21. This money will go towards the paying of my debts and to the raising of the child.

Also, I give to Tabitha, my wife, all my moveable goods and I appoint her to be my executrix to see that my will is proved and my debts paid and my body sombrely buried.

I witness this to be my will to which I have put my hand and seal the day and year above written in the presence of William Raynor and John Tunbrig.
