Arrived:16 June 1962

Career:Ian Kemp writes: "After again checking my discharge book, noted that the CINGALESE PRINCE was laid up in the River Blackwater in June 1962. I was the 3rd engineer on the vessel at that time. We had been on a round trip voyage from UK/Continent to the Far East. The vessel was built at Vickers Armstrong in Newcastle and was powered by a 6 cylinder Doxford Engine with BHP, 6,800. GRT 8827, length 470' 10" and beam 63" 2" service speed was 14 knots. In 1960 the vessel was chartered by Shaw Savill and renamed GALLIC, reverted back to Prince Line in the beginning of 1962. In Casablanca we "picked" up a stowaway and in Djibouti he somehow left the vessel so we sailed our merry way to India. On our return to Djibouti he was returned to the vessel, do not know what happened to him during his stay in Djibouti but he was out of his mind, long fingernails and spitting at people. We had to lock him up in the hospital for ours and his protection. Luckily when we returned to Morocco he was taken ashore by the local authorities."
Renamed GALLIC-1960, CINGALESE PRINCE-1962, GLOUCESTERSHIRE-1964, CRESCO-1971.
