From "Baring-Gould and Mehalah", an article by E. Farrer in East Anglian Daily Times, thought to be January 1924. In the article, E. Farrer describes a trips up Salcot Creek to look for Red Hall. In April 1883 they could see the the walls standing out against the sky, about half a mile inland. They walked to the house and he goes on to describe it in detail.
E. Farrar revisited the site in May 1890, and says the building had become a heap of red brick. See the EADT article EADT_1924_JAN

Red Hall is the home of Elijah Rebow in Baring Gould's novel Mehalah. It was his name for Old Hall, on the marshes between Salcot and Tollesbury.
