Geoff Wyncoll writes:
Kemps Farm land was of course right opposite our bungalow in Peldon and it got me wondering about how my parents, who started married life living in a small bungalow on the corner of Mill Road and Colchester Road in Mersea, might have purchased the 3 ½ acre L (upside down) shaped plot where Goodwyn (now Mayford)stands. As you looked at the property from Mersea Road the whole of the right side and much of the rear of the garden was surrounded by an orchard and strawberry fields etc which I believe belonged to the Wooldridge family but was managed by my cousin Cyril Balls. Whereas the left hand side of the property was next door to the land owned by Home Farm. This was owned by the Knight family. But in the 1930s when my parents had it built Home Farm was occupied by Henry (Harry) Balls.
