Knud was a Danish seaman who had jumped ship at the beginning of WW2 and joined the Army. In March 1943 he was transferred to the RASC 246 Motor Boat Company at West Mersea. Knud and Ella lived on Mersea at Sadlers Cottage in The Lane.
246 Motor Boat Company was transferred to Rothesay in January 1944, and Knud was transferred to the Royal Navy.
