"My husband's Goody family ran The Angel for years - Thomas Goody arrived there in1858 and, when he bought the Alma at Copford Green in 1874, his son William took over. When William died, his widow Mary Ann ran it. When Mary Ann died, eldest daughter Clara's name went on the licence but brother Will helped run it at week-ends (he worked at nearby Huttons). Their sister Kate Mary became blacksmith Frank Brown's second wife in 1946. Actually, it had been Fred Hutley's blacksmith business and Frank had married his daughter Emily (Emily was 9 yrs older than Frank. I think Emily died in 1944). Another sister Elizabeth/Lizzy married local postman Wm Faircloth. Not sure when the Goody family finally left but they were there in 1933."
