117 of 164 George Scales, centre, having received Croix de Guerre from French Attache Naval, Capitaine de Vaisseau Jean Nicolas Gauthier, of the Ministere de la Defense. George was given the award for his tenacity on D-Day when, as a Sub-Lieutenant in charge of a landing craft, he had to land a cargo of ammunition on Juno Beach. On the left is Ian Baird, former Head of English at Framlingham College, who wrote a book about George Scales and was responsible for George eventually getting his medal.
