George was given the award for his tenacity on D-Day when, as a Sub-Lieutenant in charge of a landing craft, he had to land a cargo of ammunition on Juno Beach. On the left is Ian Baird, former Head of English at Framlingham College, who wrote a book about George Scales and was responsible for George eventually getting his medal.
