 Wedding group are posing outside Walmer Cottage in St. Peters Road. Harry George (Hoppy) Hewes' daughter Maria Maud had just married Charles Elvin Minter from Thorington, a leading stoker in the Royal Navy. The marriage took place at West Mersea Parish Church on 7 June 1919.

Hoppy Hewes' grandson Ron Minter was living in St. Peters Road until recently. In the 1930s, he had been living at Brightlingsea Road, Thorrington.
