I guess the John would be David Mussett's brother who would have been 10 - nearly 11 at that time. He was in my class at school and we were good mates often sharing a desk. He died far too young.
The 'Bugler' is in fact a trombone with a little handle attached to the slide, not often see these days.
The stout little man in the trilby between the two men on the dais is Billy Chatters the council rent collector. This is Barfield Road outside the British Legion with Clifford White's cement shed on the left.
